Situated on the west bank of the Nile at Luxor,

the Valley of the Kings has been Egypt’s most important burial ground for more than 500 years.

The New Kingdom pharaohs, especially those of the 18th,19th, and 20th dynasties, selected this isolated valley as their final resting place to protect their riches from tomb raiders.

In contrast to the huge pyramids of the Old Kingdom, these tombs were concealed in the valley’s rocky cliffs.

The valley contains over 60 tombs, all uniquely designed with intricate hieroglyphics and elaborate tombs. One of the most visited tombs is that of Tutankhamun, discovered by Howard Carter in 1922, uncovering the best-preserved pharaonic treasures ever found.
