At the Wrights Dowson Group, we have a long-established reputation for designing and manufacturing tubular screw conveyors and other bulk handling equipment to the bespoke requirements of our clients.

This article will cover everything you need to know about Tubular Screw Conveyors.

What is a Tubular Screw Conveyor?

Screw Conveyors are used to transporting bulk solid materials in manufacturing plants from one place to another. They are designed to handle even tricky product and move it horizontally or at an angle. In the case of tubular screw conveyors, the product is completely enclosed. It moves along the turning screw with or without a shaft at the centre. This makes it suitable for the product that might fall out or risk contamination.

Which Industries Benefit from Tubular Screw Conveyors?

Our Tubular Screw Conveyors are frequently used in the following industries:

  • Heavy-duty grain storage
  • Animal feed milling
  • Biomass and waste
  • Recycling

Thanks to food-grade stainless steel construction, however, they also find application in transporting:

  • Food (meat, poultry, dairy, etc.)
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Chemicals

…and a wide range of other bulk solid materials.

What are the Advantages of Tubular Screw Conveyors?

Here are some of the benefits of considering a tubular screw conveyor for your application:

  • The conveyors can be constructed from various materials depending on your requirements, including stainless steel, mild steel or abrasion-resistant material.
  • There are fewer manufacturing costs involved compared to conveyor belts or pneumatic devices.
  • Tubular screw conveyors are ideal for moving dry or semi-fluid bulk materials. They reduce the threat of contamination, spillage, dust, and other forms of waste that might lead to product recalls or health-and-safety concerns on site.
  • They are space-efficient as they can be used in compact environments, making them the perfect choice for smaller manufacturers. They can also be installed at an angle where a height difference must be overcome.
  • Screw Conveyors require little maintenance, but as they’re easy to install and take apart, they can be cleaned anytime and put back together without the help of an expert.

When Not to Use a Tubular Screw Conveyor

Our conveyors meet a wide range of requirements. Still, they can be inefficient for larger operations, as the conveyance distance is limited to 30m. Depending on how bulky the transported material is, they also have limited capacity. You should also avoid tubular screw conveyors for materials with particles that might stick together or accumulate much moisture in the conveyor.
