Mahindra Scorpio N

Why should you consider the Mahindra Scorpio-N?

The Mahindra Scorpio-N is the second-generation version of the Scorpio Classic. The new-generation Scorpio was one of the most anticipated Mahindra cars. That’s because it was overdue for a complete makeover. Moreover, the carmaker continues to sell the Scorpio Classic alongside the Scorpio-N.

But do note that the new Scorpio-N is priced lower than the Scorpio Classic. The former has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 11.99 lakh (introductory), while the latter has a starting price of Rs 13.54 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). That means, for a limited period, the buyer can purchase a well-equipped SUV at a lower price. Therefore, there are several reasons why you should consider the new Scorpio-N. So, let’s proceed.

On the Inside: Design, Features, and Safety

The new SUV has grown maturely from the inside. The Mahindra Scorpio-N interior gets a dual-tone colour scheme of brown and black, carried forward to the seats. Apart from that, the AC vents, the door handles, the centre console, and the dashboard get brushed aluminium inserts. It also gets a semi-digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a Sony-sourced 3D surround sound system, etc. Furthermore, the control panels placed below the infotainment system retain the classic Mahindra design. However, at the same time, the SUV also gets a panoramic sunroof.

But, overall, the Scorpio-N is a feature-rich SUV. Please note that the features, including safety, will vary across the variants.

On the safety front, it gets six airbags, but the safety test remains untested by the concerned NCAP organisation. During the launch of the Scorpio-N, Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, claimed that he was confident about the Scorpio-N’s five-star safety rating in the crash test.

At the core: Engine, Transmission, and Mileage

The Mahindra Scorpio-N specifications include the same engine options as the Mahindra Thar and the Mahindra XUV700. Starting with the diesel engine: it comes in two states of tune: 132PS/300Nm and 175PS (370Nm and 400Nm). On the other hand, the 2.0-litre petrol unit produces 203PS (370Nm and 380Nm).

Please note that the power and torque will vary with the engine displacement and transmission combination.

As for the Scorpio-N, it is also available with two drivetrains: RWD and 4WD.

However, if you want to know an expert’s opinion on the SUV’s drivability, check out the Mahindra Scorpio-N review.

The Ackers: Prices and Variants

As mentioned earlier, the Scorpio-N is priced lower than the Scorpio Classic, but that’s an introductory offer.

The new Mahindra Scorpio-N trims include the Z2, Z4, Z6, and Z8. Furthermore, it is available in nine variants.

As for the pricing, there is a difference of around Rs 1.5 lakh between the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio-N. Only the base model of the new Scorpio-N is cheaper, while the top model is expensive.

In the end, the Scorpio-N seems to be a dealbreaker for getting new-age features and the same capability, or maybe improved compared to the old Scorpio. And both generations will have two types of buyers: the old-school seeker and the feature-oriented buyer. But it all narrows down to one’s choices and purposes.
