I like Simon, one of three adjudicators on American Idol. I find his criticism refreshingly legit. And keeping in mind that his words frighten me with their self-image injuring potential, the conventional feel-better, let-you-down-simple, glossed over criticism isn't a very remarkable gift. It's difficult to tell somebody they're not adequate and their fantasies won't occur, in this scene. Yet, not telling them is no gift by the same token. A few hopefuls adapt to the situations he tosses at them. Some don't. What's more, some can't. Which one are you?
