In the event of fire, the most dangerous property of it is that fire continues to spread and what can stop it from spreading is the fire retardant paint. The layer of the fire retardant paint can emit gases that inhibit fire or can form a protective layer of char which slows down the spread of fire. If the fire retardant paint forms a char layer only, it is known as intumescent paint or also called as fire resistant paint.
