Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen assumed all "charge" and stepped down as chairman of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after a series of electoral defeats to opposition candidates, who focused their campaign on domestic issues and peacekeeping without being overly confrontational with Beijing.
