The General Motors 4L60E Transmission is an electronically commanded version of the Turbo-Hydramatic 700R4 transmission. This transmission is designed for longitudinal engine configurations and has four forward gears and one reverse gear. It is an evolution of the Turbo-Hydramatic 700 R4 which first appeared in 1982. The General Motors 4L60E has a new design and features an additional reverse gear.


The 4L60E transmission has a streamlined design that combines OE improvements with the latest industry advances. The transmission has a classic 6 bolt bellhousing and an aluminum 1-2 accumulator piston. It also features a torque converter and oversized PR valves for improved hydraulic integrity. The remanufactured version is more expensive than the rebuild shop version, but it comes with a longer warranty and better parts selection.
